How to Check WiFi Password on Windows 10
Did you forget your wifi password? Then this guide will help you to view or retrieve your wifi password easily on Windows 10 PC.
I recommend using strong passwords to ensure from hackers. But, most of us (me too) forgot our wifi passwords often, thankfully, Windows 10 has a built-in feature to log all password which was saved previously. Don’t know the process to check the wifi password? Then I will show you, how to check or retrieve your wifi password.
There are many ways to retrieve the wifi password. I will show you all the ways to view passwords. Some methods may not work depending on your version of Windows.
If you have the latest version of windows 10 i.e pro 20H1 or H2 then all methods may work, choose a simple method to make things up easily.
View Wifi Password by Using Settings
If you are the administrator then there are no restrictions to check the passwords which are logged previously. The following process will help you to retrieve passwords easily through the settings app on Windows 10.
- Click on the action center and open “all settings”.
- Navigate the cursor to Network & Internet and select it.
- From the Status section, choose Network and sharing center.
- On the next tab, click on the Name of your connected wifi.
- Next, click on the wireless properties.
- Now, select the Security tab and check the Show characters option.
- You will see your wifi password which is next to the Network security key.
Note down the password if needed or follow the same process whenever you want to check on any Windows 10 PC.
View WiFi Password by Using Control Panel
If the above process didn’t work, then don’t worry, using the control panel we can view all the Wifi passwords which are saved previously on your Windows 10 PC.
Here’s the process explains you to view your wifi password using the control panel.
Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network Connections
- Select the search icon or press the Windows key + R key to open the “RUN” app.
- Now, on the search field type ncpa.cpl and press enter or OK.
- Double-click on the wifi network to view the respective wifi password.
- Select status option.
- Now, select the Security tab and check the Show characters option.
- You will see your wifi password which is next to the Network security key.
How to Check WiFi Password Using Command Prompt
Using the command prompt, you can view all logged wifi passwords. You can use PowerShell or else command prompt. This method will work if unless you have to click on forget network option.
The following process explains you to check your wifi password using power shell or command prompt.
- Click on Search or Cortana and search for Power shell or Command prompt.
- Open the application in administration mode.
- Now, copy the following text and paste it in the command prompt.
netsh wlan show profiles
- Under the user profiles section, you will see the all-saved networks on your windows 10 PC.
- Now, select the name of the wifi network you want to view the wifi password and copy it.
- Type the following command in the command prompt or power shell.
netsh wlan show profile "name=wifiname" key=clear
- Replace the wifiname with the copied wifi username.
- Press Enter and then you will see the details of the wifi network along with the wifi password, under the Security section, next to the Key Content.
